The monument holds the bodies of 5,191 soldiers and 5,350 unknown soldiers. There are also two gold medals Ten. Col. E. Paselli and Major F. Mignone. Lieutenant Edward McKey, officer of the American Red Cross and personal friend of Ernest Hemingway is buried there. Hemingway wrote a poem in his memory; it can be found in the monument's central chapel. The War Memorial Garden holds the fragments of the wall on which unknown parties wrote, during the Battle of the Solstice, the two famous phrases "It is better to live one day as a lion than one hundred years as sheep" and "All heroes. The Piave or all dead". The Museum of the 1915-1918 War is in the War Memorial. This small museum is inside the side head of the Military War Memorial dedicated to the Piave Soldiers. The museum exhibits a number of World War I weapons, mementoes, photos, documents and evidence in glass display units, to accompany the visit to the War Memorial.
