The valley with Saints at the windows

In the characteristic historic town of Canale d'Agordo (Belluno), located in the lower Valle del Biois, in the background of the crown of Dolomite peaks, awaits you a fascinating walk in the discovery of religious frescoes and wall paintings.

These were made between 1600 and 1700 by local artists, and the tradition continues today, as then, with local painters. Even in Vallada Agordina and in some hamlets of Falcade, these particular religious decorations can be seen and appreciated.

These paintings were commissioned by families to seek protection from illness or to secure the house from any kind of damage, while others were made as ex-voto offerings for grace received.

The frescoes are testimony to the population's piety. The town of Canale d'Agordo is a place of pilgrimage, , as it was the birthplace of Pope Albino Luciani (Giovanni Paolo 1st) and where there is also a set of frescoes in the famous Casa delle Regole.

This is the Valle del Biois' distinguishing feature, and why it is called "Valley with Saints at the windows". A chance to discover the history of these mountain villages through an innovative path of art and culture surrounded by the breath-taking view of the Dolomites.
